A native of Athens, Mr. Forbes was an artist, married to the late Ellen Endicott and to the late Jean Reti. He studied English literature at the University of Georgia and Vanderbilt University. Mr. Forbes served in World War II in the European Theatre of Operations in the Army Engineers Camouflage Battalion and earned five campaign stars.
